Description

W. Curtis Preston interviews Chris Winter, Director of Product Management for SafeNet, at VMWorld 2012 in Barcelona. They talk about some of Safenet’s products, KeySecure, StorageSecure, and ProtectV. KeySecure manages multiple HSMs (Hardware Security Modules), managing all of the HSMs as a group. KeySecure will store keys from SafeNet Products or from any KMIP-compliant key generator (i.e. NetApps NSE full drive encryption arrays, Brocade encrypting switches, HP/Quantum tape libraries, etc). StorageSecure is a FIPS 140-2 level 3 tamper proof appliance. It encrypts CIFS and NFS fileshares. Each individual user can have a separate encryption key, each file or folder can have a separate key. ProtectV is an agent that installs inside a VM and encrypts the entire VM, including the OS partition, and prevents VM from being booted until it has been authenticated and authorized. Once agent is installed, every clone, snapshot, backup or replication is encrypted. When it is time to destroy the VM, simply destroy the one key and all clones, copies, etc are rendered useless.
