W. Curtis Preston interviews Rick Vanover and Hans De Leenheer, Product Strategy for Veeam, at VMWorld 2012 in Barcelona. They talk about Veeam’s latest announcements.
Rick and Curtis talk about Backup & Replication 6.5, which has platform support for Hyper-V and Windows Server 2012 as well as VMWare vSphere 5.1. They discuss Veeam Explorer for Exchange. For Exchange, they have added functionality for their agentless backup to provide discovery and recovery capability. This is all included in their free edition. This adds discovery via a Google-like search engine, which wasn’t available previously, and improved recovery times.
Hans and Curtis discuss Veeam Explorer for SAN snapshots. They use HP’s API for HP’s LeftHand storage. They can mount clones of SAN snapshots in vSphere and see what is in the snapshot. This allows them to do single item recoveries out of the snapshots. This is also included in the free edition. -
