W. Curtis Preston interviews Karl Chen, Chief Marketing Officer for Starboard Storage Systems, at VMWorld 2012. Starboard is a hybrid storage system company. It combines features of SSDs and portable SAS drives. Starboard's dynamic storage pool technology allows the user to mix and match different types of drives and carve up the volume depending on the application workload. The system's capacity and performance can be expanded because the user can add more SSDs. It has full support for Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, and VDI solutions from VMware. The product has capabilities for thin-provisioning, read-write snapshotting, and cloning.
