Description

W. Curtis Preston interviews Tony Englese, VP of Operations for Xsigo, at EMCWorld 2012. Xsigo provides a data center fabric, which is a way of using virtual IO to give the user one connection to a server with a bandwidth of about 40 GB per second. The user can add resources without rebooting the host or guest operating systems. The connection allows a customizable blend of storage and networking traffic that is most suitable to the user's architecture. It uses Infiniband, which is essentially invisible to customers. Dozens of virtual HBAs can be attached with no reboots required. This can also be done with the use of profiles. The process is most beneficial for highly virtualized environments, but Xsigo also supports non-virtualized operating systems.
